Description:

Accessibility – creating accessible content

This session is to help you make any content or document uploaded onto a website or intranet meet the accessibility requirements

The Government has introduced Accessibility Regulations and made it a legal requirement for all public sector organisations to ensure that all websites and intranets are accessible.

To put it simply, any content or document which is being uploaded onto a website or intranet has to meet the requirements. This includes internal and external documents including:

  • Word documents
  • Content and images on websites and intranets

As a public sector organisation, it is our responsibility to ensure that everything we produce is done so in line with the guidance outlined below.

It is therefore the responsibility of all staff to ensure that any content they produce – for a website, a team microsite, or where it will be shared with colleagues or customers for online use – is accessible.

This includes people with impairments to their:

  • Vision – such as people who are colour blind or have impaired sight
  • Hearing – such as people who are hard of hearing or deaf
  • Mobility – such as people who find it difficult to use a mouse or keyboard
  • Thinking and understanding – such as people with dyslexia, autism or learning
